Unique Communications is a Windsor family company that has been protecting local homes since 1961. We install wireless home alarm systems from DSC and Qolsys with the Alarm.com app, add cameras and video doorbells if you want them, and connect everything to a ULC-listed monitoring station that watches your home around the clock.

What a home security system includes

  • A touchscreen or keypad panel by your main door.
  • Door and window sensors on the entry points that matter most.
  • Motion detectors, including pet-friendly versions that ignore cats and most dogs.
  • Smoke, heat, carbon monoxide and flood sensors that can be monitored as well.
  • Cameras and a video doorbell, viewed in the same app as your alarm.
  • Key fobs and the Alarm.com app to arm and disarm without a code.

Modern systems are wireless, so installation is tidy and there is little or no drilling.

How much does a home alarm cost in Windsor?

There are two parts to the cost: the equipment and installation, which you pay once, and monitoring, which is monthly.

Starter Panel, 2–3 door sensors, 1 motion detector, app from $___
Whole home Starter plus window sensors, smoke/CO, key fobs from $___

Monitoring: from $__ per month. State contract term, e.g. month-to-month or __-year agreement. We give you a written quote before any work starts.

How installation works

  1. Free in-home survey. We look at your doors, windows, basement and garage and ask how your household comes and goes.
  2. Quote. A written quote with the equipment, installation and monitoring listed separately.
  3. Install day. Most homes take __ to __ hours. We test every sensor with the monitoring station.
  4. Walkthrough. We set up codes for each family member, install the app on your phones and show you how to cancel a false alarm.

How monitoring works

When a sensor triggers while your system is armed, the signal goes to a ULC-listed monitoring station. An operator checks the signal, calls you or your contacts, and dispatches police or fire if needed. You also get an instant app notification. More about alarm monitoring.

Common questions

Will my pets set off the alarm?

Not with pet-immune motion detectors, which ignore animals up to a set weight. Tell us about your pets at the survey and we will place sensors to suit.

I rent. Can I still have an alarm?

Yes. Wireless systems need little or no drilling and can move with you. Check with your landlord first.

What if the power or internet goes down?

The panel runs on a backup battery and sends signals over cellular, so it keeps working through outages.

Can I control the alarm from my phone?

Yes. With Alarm.com you can arm, disarm, see who came home and when, watch cameras and get alerts from anywhere.

Will a monitored alarm lower my home insurance?

Many insurers offer a discount for a monitored alarm. We provide the monitoring certificate they ask for.

Can you take over my existing alarm?

Often, yes. Many DSC, Honeywell and Qolsys panels can be switched to our monitoring without replacing the equipment.
